ADDRESS BY REPRESENTATIVE SHINE

The chair recognized Representative Shine who addressed the house, speaking as follows:

Gentlemen, I'm reminded, all of us are reminded every day, of how fragile life really is. Just moments ago, just a little bit ago, an Army Black Hawk helicopter with crew members aboard crashed in Maryland. A UH-60 Black Hawk from Fort Belvoir, Virginia, crashed near Leonardtown, Maryland. Two crew members, we believe, were safe, but the other members, we believe, have been killed.
The other thing that I would like to do, please Mr. Speaker, members: Early Sunday morning, Lori Pohanka-Kalama, a first responder volunteer at the Morgan's Point Resort Dive Team, passed away during a mission in attempting to recover a soldier that was missing at Fort Hood that would have been swept up into a nearby creek during the storms that hit Bell County last week. She was transported to a local hospital where she died from her injuries sustained in the search operation. She was a professional diver on the dive team. We're honored by her service, saddened by her death, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to her, her family and friends, and other first responders. I would ask that you join me for a moment of silence to recognize this loss of life.
