The invocation was offered by Jennifer Webber, pastor, First United Methodist Church, Bryan, as follows:

Dear God, as we gather today in this great assembly, we give you thanks for our freedoms---freedoms to lead, teach, and make decisions that will benefit our great state. We pray for all those gathered, who selflessly serve. We pray, too, for our leaders' families. May our leaders remain humble and wise as they seek to care for all God's children both young and old. We ask you, great creator, that we would continue to live as good stewards of the gifts you have given us. May our thoughts, actions, time, talents, and resources continue to bring health, life, and wholeness to the people of Texas. We ask you, God, for your power to drown out any noise and pressures that stand in our way. Give our leaders strength and courage to lead as servants of the people. We pray all this in hopes that all glory goes to God. Amen.
