This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Lord, we thank you for this day, for life, for waking us up, for giving us the opportunity today to use our gifts and abilities, making this great state a better one for all who call it home. Lord, I thank you today for the men and women in this house whom you have called and appointed to serve for a time such as this. Thank you for their willingness to step into such a great leadership capacity, for answering the call to serve, making our great state even stronger. As I think of them in this moment on this day, God, I pray that you would give them complete knowledge of your will and give them spiritual wisdom and understanding. May the way they live always honor and please you, Lord, and may their lives produce every kind of good fruit. And may they learn to know you better and better.
Today, I pray for a spirit of unity, that we would be willing to lay aside personal preference and seek the common good. May we be willing to reach across the aisle for understanding of one another's viewpoint, and may we demonstrate a spirit of cooperation in the process. May we be willing to sacrifice self for the betterment of another. I pray for a spirit of peace, for your spirit, Lord, to cover this Capitol building today. May the words we use and the decisions we may make all be articulated and acted upon in a peaceful manner. When future generations look back on this day in history, may they see it as one of the greatest of all time, a day in which decisions passed down influenced greatly those who followed in its footsteps.
Lord, I pray for all who are watching today, whether in person or via technology, that we would willingly submit ourselves to these our called leaders. May we honor and submit ourselves to their leadership, knowing that they are seeking the best for all who live in our great state. And as we think of these appointed leaders, may our normal response become one of prayer and thanksgiving, rather than accusation and cursing. For we know that many are the plans of man's heart, yet it's the Lord's will that will prevail. Lord, we pray for your perfect will to be accomplished this day. Now, may the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.
