Father, I come to you today with a grateful and full heart. I'm so thankful for the many blessings in life, and I'm tickled to be a native Texan. Father, you are the creator of the universe, the one true God, and Father, you love us unconditionally. Despite our many failings, you continue to love us without end. Today, Father, I stand before so many men and women that can shape our state and indeed our world. I pray that you will impress upon every one of them the incredible responsibility that is at their feet. I pray that you will protect every elected official and their family members. I also pray that you will care for the staff that fills the offices around this complex, working largely behind the scenes for our great state.
Father, the days and nights are long, and the lifting is hard. I pray that you will give every member of this house an extraordinary measure of energy, rest, and special grace when the heat rises. Your word says, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him." (James 1:5) I pray that we will all have the courage to admit we need help and will be willing to ask for the wisdom your word promises. I pray that every member of this house will know your presence, that they will know your love, and that they will, in turn, love back. I pray for unity in this body that is beyond our understanding and solidarity that surpasses political, socioeconomic, and cultural differences. There are so many things that divide us. I pray that you will help us find our common ground, that rather than focusing on things that divide us you will reveal a spirit of unity. Father God, I pray that your will be done, and I pray this in your name. Amen.
