Eternal God, you desire that we all be one, as you yourself are one. May we recognize the chances you place before us to love you and our neighbor today, seeing that we all have the same end, the same place that you have made for us: within you. Permit nothing to separate us from you or each other today, and break down any barriers of division among us that prevent us from increasing the bonds of charity. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
The chair recognized Representative Paul who led the house in the pledges of allegiance to the United States and Texas flags.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE GRANTED
The following member was granted leave of absence for today because of important business:
E. Thompson on motion of Paul.
MOMENT OF SILENCE OBSERVED
REPRESENTATIVE PAUL: It's with great sadness that I want to tell you about an incident that happened yesterday. Yesterday, Representative Ed Thompson found out that his oldest son had passed away. It's difficult, as you know—or can imagine, losing a son no matter what age. His name was Kyle Thompson and I don't know any of the details yet, but I can't imagine anybody losing a child.
Yesterday, he was notified on the house floor. The speaker was with him, and his staff was with him, and the members here were with him. Mr. Goldman and I were able to sit with him and spend some time. It's been very tough on him, as you can imagine. So I ask all of y'all to say a prayer, have a moment of silence, and remember our brother. I've told him he's got 149 other brothers and sisters with him here in prayer. So thank you all very much.
