MOMENT OF SILENCE OBSERVED

REPRESENTATIVE T. KING: I'm going to ask everyone to stay in their seats just because that is my personal preference on the way we do memorial resolutions. I appreciate you, thank you in advance for doing that. I've asked a couple—two or three—members to help me with part of this presentation just to make sure I am able to finish it.
These are the 21 memorial resolutions for the victims in the Uvalde shooting, is what these are. Nineteen fourth graders and two teachers. I want to thank a number of people for helping on this. As you can imagine, putting together 19 memorial resolutions under those situations is a tremendous task and I want to thank Celina Overbo, my chief of staff, for spending an enormous amount of time with those families working on these resolutions. So if y'all could give Celina a hand, I would appreciate it.
I want to thank so many of my colleagues here on the floor that came to Uvalde and went to the funerals. I went to every funeral that was there in Uvalde and a number of y'all were there at the same time. Speaker Phelan came, Representative Darby came, and some of the other folks that are helping me today. So many of you have connections with Uvalde County and I know it was special to y'all.
On May 24 of last year, at 11:30 in the morning, a gunman walked into Robb Elementary and shot 38 people. Twenty-one of them died, 19 children and two teachers, and that all occurred in less than four minutes. Today, we are here to honor each and every one of those persons that lost their life in that shooting. We are going to read their names and make a few comments from the resolution about each one of them. I've asked several of my colleagues to help me out with this because I didn't think I could get through all 21 of them. We've arranged these in alphabetical order with the two teachers going last.
Nevaeh Alyssa Bravo: She was a caring and devoted daughter who always helped out her parents when they needed her. She was blessed with a wide circle of loved ones; and with her joyful spirit, she brought smiles to the faces of everyone she encountered.
Jacklyn Jaylen Cazares: Free-spirited and sweet-natured, she was warm and affectionate towards those she loved. She also adored animals and she hoped to one day turn her passion into a career as a veterinarian.

Jose Manuel Flores Jr.: Renowned for his helpfulness around the house, Jose assisted in various tasks, including caring for his infant brother. In keeping with his desire to be of service to others, he dreamed of growing up to become a police officer.
Eliahna Amyah Garcia: Eliahna was affectionately known as Ellie. She was blessed with a kind heart and a vibrant cheerful spirit. She had dreams of becoming a cheerleader one day and she had already begun planning for her quinceañera party.
Uziyah Sergio Garcia: Uzi was an outgoing, sweet, and deeply affectionate young boy who treasured his family and particularly enjoyed spending time with his siblings. He demonstrated his fun-loving, but competitive, nature when gaming on his Nintendo and always loved being silly and making everyone laugh with his jokes.

Cherished by his parents and siblings, he was also a devoted grandson, who would wake up to brew his grandparents a pot of coffee each morning.
Tess Marie Mata: An athletic young girl, Tess played softball and soccer and competed in gymnastics. Though feisty and outspoken, she was also blessed with a caring heart and she dreamed one day of becoming a veterinarian or opening her own shelter for stray animals.
Maranda Gail Mathis: Shy and sweet, Maranda enjoyed spending time outdoors where her pursuits included collecting rocks, shells, and feathers. She had a kind heart, engaging smile, and a vivid imagination and she often expressed her love for unicorns and mermaids.

REPRESENTATIVE C. MORALES: Alithia Haven Ramirez: Alithia was admired for her intelligence and reliability, as well as her kind and loving nature. Known for her passion and talent for art, she could often be found with a crayon in hand working on her latest drawing. She had dreams of one day attending art school in Paris on her way to becoming a professional artist.
Annabell Guadalupe Rodriguez: Annabell possessed a kind and caring nature, and she delighted in making videos with her sisters and showing off her dance moves. She also loved school, animals, and the color baby blue. She had hopes of one day becoming a veterinarian.
Maite Yuleana Rodriguez: Sweet natured, kind, and gracious, Maite was an honor roll student who enjoyed learning about animals, especially aquatic life. She was also dedicated to achieving her goals and she had her sights set on enrolling at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi on her way to becoming a marine biologist.
Alexandria Aniyah Rubio: Affectionately known as "Lexi," she was an athletic and energetic fourth grader. She inherited her father's passion for playing softball and basketball, and they devoted many hours to their one-on-one practice sessions. She also drew inspiration from her mother, who was pursuing a degree from Saint Mary's University where she hoped to one day enroll and study mathematics, and then attend law school.

Rojelio Fernandez Torres: An outgoing and kindhearted young boy, Rojelio was always smiling and eager to help others. He enjoyed being outdoors and pursued a number of hobbies. Among his favorites were playing football and playing video games.
Finally, members, our two teachers. Eva Mireles: Ms. Mireles held a special education certificate and throughout her nearly 17-year career, she was passionate about providing a quality education to students of all abilities. She went above and beyond to ensure the happiness and well-being of her students.
Irma Linda Garcia: After receiving her bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from Sul Ross State University in 1997, she embarked on a 23-year career as an elementary school teacher with the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District. She found great fulfillment in engaging with her students and helping to set them apart and towards higher education.

T. KING: Thank you, members. I want to thank my colleagues that helped me read those excerpts from the resolutions that we had prepared. And again, I want to thank everybody that helped me put those together: Celina Overbo; my wife, Cheryl King; and others that contributed to that, and each and every one of the members that came and sent me messages during this tragedy. Obviously, a tragedy like this affects your community for many, many years to come, but not only that, it affects the whole State of Texas.

The resolutions were unanimously adopted by a rising vote.
