Dear brothers and sisters, friends, and fellow laborers here in this building, let's join our hearts together in prayer as we start this legislative day.
O God, sometimes we forget how big and wonderful you are. Forgive us when we do. Forgive us when we do wrong and fail to confess it. Forgive us when we think of ourselves more highly than we do others. Forgive us when we cover your majesty with our own pride and arrogance.
May we praise your glory in all we do here today, for it is in your courts and in the high legislative chambers of heaven, that the true and just laws are made. Though our reflection of those laws be poor, may they somehow be pleasing to you.
Father, I ask that you empower these representatives to do your work. Send your Holy Spirit to guide them and to direct their affairs this day. May the love and compassion of Jesus fill this chamber to overflowing. And all God's children said, Amen.
